The Roberts Group strongly believes in the importance
of strategic planning for non-profit boards of directors. We
take each of our clients through a strategic planning process
every three to four years. Our strategic planning typically includes production of a mission statement,
strategies and critical objectives. We use the results of strategic
planning to guide our activities, including budgeting, staffing
and program priorities. Although we have extensive strategic planning
experience internally we will bring in outside facilitators
for specialized expertise.
We have found that it is easy to create a strategic plan, but hard to keep it in the forefront of your thinking as unanticipated
issues and problems develop. A good strategic plan is broad
and flexible enough to create a
path that can accommodate these developments.
In fact, we find the best way to deal with unexpected developments
is to have a broad strategic plan that charts the path forward
through unfamiliar territory.
