LONG-TERM PLANNING GUIDES
DAILY DECISIONS
We at The Roberts Group believe strongly in the importance
of strategic planning for non-profit boards of directors. We
take each of our clients through a strategic planning process
every three or four years. Strategic planning for The Roberts
Group typically includes production of a mission statement,
strategies and critical objectives. We use the results of strategic
planning to guide our activities, including budgeting, staffing
and program priorities. We have extensive strategic planning
experience internally and will often bring in outside facilitators
for specialized expertise.
We have found that it is easy to do a strategic plan, but it
is hard to keep it in the forefront of your thinking as unanticipated
issues and problems develop. A good strategic plan is broad
enough and flexible enough to set a
pathway that can accommodate these unanticipated developments.
In fact, we find the best way to deal with unanticipated developments
is to have a broad strategic plan that gives a pathway forward
through unfamiliar territory.
